How Often Should You Detail Your Car in Los Angeles?

Why LA cars get dirty faster
Between freeway brake dust, coastal salt air, construction zones, and months of direct sun, vehicles in Los Angeles County pick up contamination faster than almost anywhere else in the country. Park outside and your clear coat is fighting UV exposure every single day.
That means the 'detail once a year' advice you'll read on national blogs doesn't hold up here. Local cars need a tighter schedule.
A realistic schedule for LA daily drivers
For a car that's driven daily and parked outside, this is the cadence we recommend to our own customers:
- Wash every 1–2 weeks to remove brake dust and bird droppings before they etch the paint.
- Interior wipe-down monthly — dashboard plastics crack fast under the California sun.
- Full detail every 3–4 months to reset the paint, glass, and interior.
- Hand wax or sealant at least twice a year for UV protection.
Signs you've waited too long
Water spots that don't wash off, a rough feel when you run your hand over the paint, and a dull finish in direct sunlight all mean contamination has bonded to the clear coat. At that point a basic wash won't fix it — the paint needs decontamination and a proper wax.
The easy way to stay on schedule
Most of our regulars book a mobile detail every few months and let us come to their driveway or office. Wash Club members get 30% off every visit, which makes staying on a schedule significantly cheaper than catching up after the damage is done.
